After nearly five years of renovation work, De Nederlandsche Bank’s headquarters building on Frederiksplein in Amsterdam reopened for employees at the start of this year. Soon, the finishing touches will be put on De Nieuwe Schatkamer and it will be time for a grand opening.
The Mayor of Amsterdam, the Minister of Finance and other dignitaries will be present, along with people involved in the renovation, employees, local residents and interested members of the community.
Prior to the opening ceremony, the President of DNB will take the King on a tour of De Nieuwe Schatkamer. Two hundred tonnes of gold and vast quantities of banknotes were once kept safe in this massive vault, making this the most secure spot in Amsterdam. The gold and cash have been moved and the vault doors are now open for everyone. Here, visitors can discover, learn and discuss all kinds of things about gold, money and our economy.
With the opening of De Nieuwe Schatkamer, the renovation of the distinctive building on Frederiksplein is complete and De Nederlandsche Bank is open to all.
