Art collection
De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) has a unique collection of contemporary artworks. These are works by artists who capture the spirit of the times and make you look at the world differently. DNB aims to encourage the development of art, young artists and exhibition makers through the acquisition of artworks, temporary exhibitions and collaborations.
From paintings to video art
From towering sculptures to delicate glass objects, and from paintings to videos and photographs, DNB’s collection features works in all kinds of media. These are experimental and idiosyncratic artworks. The art collection includes works by artists from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, working with different art forms and from different perspectives. The collection includes works by well-known artists such as Marlene Dumas, Robert Zandvliet and Armando, and emerging talents such as Tarona, Thijs Zweers and Jamilah Sabur.
The permanent exhibition
Curious about the artworks in the permanent exhibition? Explore the works and the stories behind them online. These pieces form the heart of the art collection, featuring works by George Hendrik Breitner and Coba Ritsema, probing photography by Céline van Balen and layered paintings by Ronald Ophuis and Natasja Kensmil. The exhibition is a great introduction to our collection. View the artworks online and visit the exhibition at De Nederlandsche Bank.
Temporary art exhibitions
DNB mounts temporary art exhibitions featuring works by Dutch and international artists who are at the beginning of their careers. You are welcome from April 2025 onwards. The exhibition is self-guided. You can also join guided tours and attend other events. Check the calendar for upcoming dates.
About the art collection
Our art collection has a rich history. De Nederlandsche Bank has been acquiring art since the late nineteenth century, and the collection has evolved over the years. Since the 1990s, DNB has been collecting contemporary artworks that encourage the exchange of ideas and help better understand social themes. The artworks are by artists from different backgrounds. DNB’s art procurement policy focuses on emerging and newly successful artists. DNB follows them throughout their careers and often purchases multiple works.
