On 22 April 2022, the Amsterdam District Court ordered the bankruptcy of Amsterdam Trade Bank N.V.. DNB has subsequently activated the deposit guarantee scheme for account holders of ATB. Eligible account holders with accounts at ATB, among others acting under the trade name FIBR, may therefore request compensation.
What can account holders expect?
DNB will pay out the amount covered by the Dutch Deposit Guarantee to eligible account holders at ATB, subject to a maximum of EUR 100,000 per person. Additional protection applies to money held temporarily in accounts related to the purchase or sale of a house, up to EUR 500,000. More information about the deposit guarantee for ATB can be found on www.dnb.nl.
DNB will soon send all account holders at ATB a letter by post providing more details of the deposit guarantee scheme and explaining how we will pay out compensation.
Within the next ten business days, DNB will open a web portal on its website www.dnb.nl, where account holders can indicate in which account they wish to receive their compensation. In addition, account holders can also use a form to notify DNB of the account in which they wish to receive their compensation. After submitting the account, DNB will transfer the compensation to that account within a few business days.
Account holders who do not reside in the Netherlands can use a form to notify DNB of the account in which they wish to receive their compensation. DNB will make these forms available on its website.
Number of account holders at ATB
ATB has been active in the Netherlands since 1994. The bank has over 23,000 private account holders, most of whom live in the Netherlands. Almost 6,000 customers live in Germany. The amount guaranteed by the deposit guarantee scheme totals around EUR 700 million. The amount needed to compensate account holders can be fully financed from the Deposit Guarantee Fund, to which all Dutch-based banks have contributed since 2016. The Deposit Guarantee Fund currently exceeds EUR 3 billion.
Investor compensation scheme activated
In addition to the deposit guarantee scheme, DNB has also activated the investor compensation scheme. This is because ATB is also licensed to provide investment services. Subject to specific conditions, the investor compensation scheme provides coverage up to EUR 20,000 per person for monies and/or financial instruments entrusted to ATB for the provision of investment services. As the administrator of the investor compensation scheme, DNB will soon provide further details at www.dnb.nl.
