Authorisation and supervision
The provision of financial services – savings, insurance – requires authorisation, for example in the form of a licence. De Nederlandsche Bank and the Autoriteit Financiële Markten are the supervisory authorities responsible for granting such authorisation. Supervision reduces the risk of something going wrong, but it is not a guarantee. If a licensed bank fails, you will get your money back up to a maximum of €100,000 under the Dutch Deposit Guarantee.
